Lauréats Grants scientifiques 2020 : 63 projets de recherche soutenus pour faire progresser la lutte contre le cancer
Tous les deux ans, la Fondation contre le Cancer lance un appel à projets destiné aux chercheurs belges spécialisés en oncologie. L’objectif est de financer des travaux de recherche fondamentale, translationnelle et clinique qui permettent de mieux comprendre le cancer, d’améliorer les traitements et d’augmenter les chances de guérison. En 2020, cet appel a permis de sélectionner 63 projets innovants et prometteurs, issus de diverses universités et institutions hospitalières du pays.
Ces Lauréats Grants scientifiques 2020 se sont partagé un financement total de 23,8 millions d’euros, réparti selon les trois axes de recherche soutenus par la Fondation. En recherche fondamentale, 30 projets ont été retenus pour un montant global de 13.284.989 €. Ces travaux visent à explorer les mécanismes biologiques du cancer, à identifier de nouvelles cibles thérapeutiques et à approfondir les connaissances sur la formation et l’évolution des cellules cancéreuses.
En recherche translationnelle et clinique, 27 projets ont été sélectionnés pour un financement de 8.745.680 €. Ces projets ont pour but de rapprocher la recherche du patient, en développant des traitements plus efficaces, mieux tolérés et adaptés aux besoins individuels.
Enfin, un appel spécifique consacré aux cancers liés à l’exposition à l’amiante a permis de soutenir 6 projets pour un montant total de 1.771.000 €. Ces recherches ciblent une problématique environnementale majeure, avec des conséquences graves sur la santé publique.
Les Lauréats Grants scientifiques 2020 illustrent l’engagement de la Fondation contre le Cancer à soutenir une recherche d’excellence, capable de transformer les espoirs des patients en avancées concrètes. En investissant dans des projets rigoureux et novateurs, la Fondation contribue activement à faire reculer le cancer en Belgique.
